Little bowls of mine
What started off as cylinders eventually ended up as small dishes. As a person who got back into throwing on the wheel, I wanted to allow myself to make mistakes and to play around and this is exactly how I ended up with small dishes. An experiment with a happy ending. In asian cuisine, you can never have enough small dishes. Use them for dips, banchan, seasoning, whatever my heart desires.
After the dishes were leather hard, I experimented with the foot. I’ve seen so many foot styles and I wanted to see which would work best for balance. All work well, but bowl with the center filled circle is more prone to wobbling.
Glaze
I decided to experiment with the dip glazes available at the studio. For the inside, I wanted it to be transparent so whatever was placed in the dish would be apparent. For the outside I decided to play with “mixto cafe azul verde.” I wasn’t entirely sure what “mix of brown blue green” meant, but depending on how many layers were applied it would end up with one of those colors after being fired. I thought the more layers I applied, it would be more blue. I turned out to be wrong. It was more brown. However, I did dust of some parts of each dish before firing so some blue parts appeared :)
